What is an Enrolled Agent?
|
|
The principals
of the firm are The California Society of Enrolled Agent Tax Professionals who serve taxpayers in a dynamic, rapidly
changing tax environment with integrity and trust. CSEA, Enrolled Agents agree to abide by a strict code of ethics and
to fulfill 25% more education per year than other EAs which helps ensure you don't pay too much or risk an audit. We complete
more than 30 units of continuing education per calendar year.
An Enrolled Agent is a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by
either passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns, or through experience as
a former IRS employee. Enrolled Agent status is the highest credential the awarded by U.S. Department of the Treasury. Individuals
who obtain this elite status must also adhere to Federal ethical standards.
Enrolled Agents are Federally licensed, unlike attorneys and certified public accountants (CPAs), who are state licensed,
all with unlimited practice rights. RTRPs tax practitioners have a limited right to practice before
the tax authorities. This means EAs are unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent or what types of tax matters
they can handle. Learn more about Enrolled Agents in
Treasury Department Circular 230 (PDF).
